Karur is one of the most established towns in Tamil Nadu. Early Chera ruler’s capital city was Karur. According to the 2011 Census, the average literacy rate was 81.71%. Many sculpted temples are found here.
Karur has been controlled by many dynasties such as Madurai Nayaks, Later Cholas, Cheras, Mysore Kingdom and Vijayanagar Empire. Karuvurar (Divine Music Composer) born here in the Middle Age. The city is placed on the banks of Amaravathi river.
It is considered as South India’s Bus Hub. It is the business place for exchanging of farming items from the adjacent towns and rular areas. Karur is famous for table linens, kitchen linens, bed linens, wall hangings and toilet linens.
